OH (OcioHogar): \u00bfQu\u00e9 te hizo convertirte en un dise\u00f1ador de productos y mobiliario?<\/strong><\/p>\nAlessandro Busana (AB): Creo que la raz\u00f3n inicial fue la curiosidad por averiguar c\u00f3mo est\u00e1n hechas las cosas, junto con mi actitud natural por el dibujo, sin embargo el episodio m\u00e1s importante que me hizo decidirme por lo que realmente quer\u00eda hacer en la vida fue un accidente de moto\u00a0 hace 12 a\u00f1os (entonces ten\u00eda 25 a\u00f1os). En este accidente perd\u00ed la movilidad en mi brazo derecho.<\/p>\n
Hasta ese momento sol\u00eda trabajar como dise\u00f1ador de interiores para una empresa que se dedicaba al dise\u00f1o y montaje de stands de lujo, siempre usaba mi mano derecha para dibujar. A partir del accidente tuve que empezar a dibujar con mi mano izquierda, esto me dio una nueva perspectiva de las cosas, en todos los sentidos. As\u00ed que dado que deb\u00eda partir de cero de nuevo, decid\u00ed convertirme en lo que realmente quer\u00eda ser, dise\u00f1ador de productos y mobiliario\u2026 y todav\u00eda sigo aprendiendo en este oficio d\u00eda a d\u00eda.<\/p>\n
OH: \u00bfQu\u00e9 debe tener un dise\u00f1o para convertirse en un \u00e9xito?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Hay muchos aspectos a considerar para conseguir un producto de \u00e9xito, el momento apropiado, la atracci\u00f3n que el producto puede crear en el observador, el precio en relaci\u00f3n con el valor que se percibe en el producto, la complicidad con el dise\u00f1ador, la empresa fabricante, tal vez la suerte\u2026 pero creo que tener seguridad y amor por el trabajo que hacemos es un factor fundamental para que el producto tenga \u00e9xito.<\/p>\n A diferencia de una \u00f3pera donde un solista lleva la voz cantante, el dise\u00f1o de un producto es el resultado de un equipo de trabajo, y la motivaci\u00f3n del dise\u00f1ador debe ser el motor que mueve a todos los miembros del equipo para llevar a cabo su idea, y a veces esto es dif\u00edcil de conseguir.<\/p>\n OH: Entre todos tus dise\u00f1os, \u00bfcu\u00e1l es tu producto favorito?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Esta es siempre una pregunta dif\u00edcil, la respuesta habitual de un dise\u00f1ador ser\u00eda: \u201cmi mejor proyecto va a ser el siguiente\u201d y realmente podr\u00eda ser mi respuesta, pero hay algunos proyectos que son realmente importantes para m\u00ed, tal vez porque fueron creaciones realizadas en momentos muy particulares de mi carrera, por ejemplo el tenedor \u201cB-Side\u201d que me permiti\u00f3 participar por primera vez en la importante feria Fuorisalone durante la Milano Design Week de 2005. O tambi\u00e9n el sof\u00e1 \u201cPlus\u201d, mi primer asiento en pl\u00e1stico dise\u00f1ado para una gran empresa como Pedrali. Tambi\u00e9n el \u201cBasket Chair\u201d para Gaber, que gan\u00f3 el Good Design Award de 2014, o incluso la nueva mesa Medley para Bonaldo que conf\u00edo que signifique para m\u00ed un paso adelante en mobiliario de lujo para el hogar.<\/p>\n OH: \u00bfCu\u00e1l es tu fuente de inspiraci\u00f3n?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Todo aporta a la inspiraci\u00f3n, cualquier objeto o situaci\u00f3n esconde algo por descubrir todos los d\u00edas, lo dif\u00edcil es capturar los mensajes adecuados de las personas, los libros, de internet, de un momento particular y combinarlo todo con tu propia sensibilidad e intuici\u00f3n.<\/p>\n OH: \u00bfC\u00f3mo es un d\u00eda normal de trabajo para usted?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Normalmente me despierto a las 8:30 y tomo mi desayuno italiano t\u00edpico (cappuccino y cornetto) en una plaza enfrente de mi casa, en el centro de Padua. Despu\u00e9s voy al estudio, a menudo con una de las bicicletas que he dise\u00f1ado yo mismo.<\/p>\n Una vez que estoy en el estudio me dedico a trabajar en los proyectos, hago un descanso para la comida y entonces estoy listo para dibujar, contestar emails, organizar los nuevos proyectos y establecer contactos con las futuras empresas.<\/p>\n Pero creo que la mejor parte de mi d\u00eda de trabajo es cuando viajo a las f\u00e1bricas para desarrollar los nuevos prototipos. Cada empresa hace las cosas de una forma diferente, as\u00ed que siempre hay alguno nuevo que aprender.<\/p>\n OH: En su opini\u00f3n, \u00bfcu\u00e1l va a ser el producto estrella de esta temporada?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Realmente no lo s\u00e9, este a\u00f1o he visto muchos productos muy interesantes en la \u00faltima Feria de Mil\u00e1n, pero depende mucho tambi\u00e9n de inversi\u00f3n comercial que realicen las empresas.<\/p>\n Por ejemplo, hay muchos productos maravillosos que algunas empresas no son capaces de vender, por miles de razones, as\u00ed que es muy dif\u00edcil decir ahora cu\u00e1l va a ser el producto estrella\u2026 algunos productos ic\u00f3nicos han comenzado a venderse bien despu\u00e9s de haber pasado varios a\u00f1os desde su lanzamiento.<\/p>\n \u00bfTal vez mi nueva mesa Medley puede ser uno? Lo veremos.<\/p>\n OH: \u00bfC\u00f3mo cree que ser\u00e1 el futuro del dise\u00f1o de mobiliario?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Creo en la atracci\u00f3n magn\u00e9tica que se puede conseguir con un buen dise\u00f1o de los objetos. Es una especie de alquimia, como un actor que te hace llorar o re\u00edr, algo que te cautiva. Creo que \u00e9ste debe ser un aspecto a mantener para dise\u00f1ar productos fascinantes.<\/p>\n Olv\u00eddate del precio, estilo, utilidad o si lo necesitas o no\u2026 cuando ves algo que cautiva tu alma, lo \u00fanico que quieres es conseguirlo.<\/p>\n OH: Has trabajado para empresas muy importantes como Alfa Romeo o Roncato. \u00bfPara qu\u00e9 otras empresas te gustar\u00eda trabajar?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Para ser precisos, para Alfa Romeo y Roncato \u00fanicamente hice unos proyectos peque\u00f1os, sin embargo ha sido suficiente para entender que las grandes empresas pueden cambiarte la vida. Voy a intentar enfocarme en alguna marca hist\u00f3rica de dise\u00f1o para el hogar como Zanotta, Magis, Cassina, Poliform y otras. Tengo mucha curiosidad por la metodolog\u00eda de trabajo de estas prestigiosas marcas de alta calidad que representan el sello \u201cmade in Italy\u201d en el mundo.<\/p>\n OH: Recientemente has obtenido el Good Design Award 2014 por la silla Basket. \u00bfQu\u00e9 ha significado para ti este premio?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: S\u00ed, es mi primer premio internacional y estoy muy orgulloso de haberlo conseguido. Obviamente mi vida no va a cambiar por esto, pero es una agradable confirmaci\u00f3n de que tu trabajo y tu estilo son apreciados por otras personas, es muy motivador.<\/p>\n OH: \u00bfPodr\u00edas contarnos un poco sobre los proyectos en los que est\u00e1s trabajando en la actualidad? \u00bfCu\u00e1les van a ser tus pr\u00f3ximos productos?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: En este momento estoy enfocado en todos los tipos de mobiliario que realmente caracterizan los diferentes espacios del hogar tales como mesas, sof\u00e1s, camas pero espero tener algo nuevo incluso de mi mobiliario favorito…\u00a0 las sillas.<\/p>\n Tampoco puedo ocultar mi gusto por la experimentaci\u00f3n, me gustar\u00eda presentar algo totalmente nuevo e inesperado en la pr\u00f3xima Feria del Mueble de Mil\u00e1n, \u00a1Estad atentos!<\/p>\n OH: En nuestro cat\u00e1logo ofrecemos la silla Plus de Pedrali. \u00bfPodr\u00edas contarnos m\u00e1s sobre c\u00f3mo fue el proceso de dise\u00f1o o cu\u00e1l fue tu fuente de inspiraci\u00f3n? \u00bfCu\u00e1les son las diferencias entre el dise\u00f1o para interior y para exterior?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: La silla Plus fue mi primer producto comercial importante para una gran empresa del dise\u00f1o como Pedrali, estoy muy orgulloso de este proyecto porque una silla es el objeto m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil de dise\u00f1ar y lo hice tan solo dos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de la apertura de mi estudio por lo cual, fue un primer logro en mi carrera.<\/p>\n El proyecto naci\u00f3 de una silla h\u00edbrida, la mitad en pl\u00e1stico y la otra mitad en madera. La forma de la silla le gust\u00f3 a la empresa que me propuso realizarla 100 % en pl\u00e1stico reciclable. As\u00ed naci\u00f3 una silla de exterior muy vers\u00e1til, s\u00faper apilable (la empresa vende cajas con 24 piezas que colocadas una encima de la otra se mantienen en una posici\u00f3n estable), una mezcla de estilos entre una prestigiosa silla de interior y la popular silla de exterior blanca. Este producto ha tenido y a\u00fan tiene un gran \u00e9xito despu\u00e9s de 5 a\u00f1os de su lanzamiento.<\/p>\n OH: Dise\u00f1as principalmente muebles y accesorios para el hogar. \u00bfEn qu\u00e9 otros sectores te gustar\u00eda trabajar?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Me siento atra\u00eddo por los art\u00edculos relacionados con el deporte, por ejemplo las bicicletas, pero m\u00e1s tarde o m\u00e1s temprano me gustar\u00eda dise\u00f1ar algo que pueda hacer m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil la vida de las personas con problemas de movilidad. Hacer la vida m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil y mejor para otras personas es un proyecto muy gratificante.<\/p>\n OH: Si no fueras un dise\u00f1ador, ser\u00edas…<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: \u00a1M\u00fasico! No era malo como bater\u00eda. Alessandro Busana covers in the interview about the key factors for a successful product design, what motivated him to become a furniture designer and he also speaks about one of his new projects for the italian firm Bonaldo: Medley table which is now in progress and we will find soon in the catalogue of this firm.<\/p>\n OcioHogar (OH): What made you decide to become a furniture and product designer?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB (Alessandro Busana): I guess that the first trigger was the curiosity in how all the things are made, mixed with my natural attitude to drawing, but the important episode that made me decide to do what I really wanted to do in my life was a bad event that happened twelve years ago (I was 25), a bad motorcycle accident where I lost the use of the right arm. Until this event I worked like interior designer for a flair stand builder company, my right hand was the hand that I always used for drawing but I had to change everything, starting to draw with the left hand, watching all the things with another perspective. So, starting from zero, I decided to try becoming what I really wanted to be, a product\/furniture designer\u2026 and I am still learning day by day.<\/p>\n OH: What needs a design to become a success?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: There\u2019s many aspects to consider to have a successful product, the right moment, the attraction that the product is able to create in to the observer, the product price in relation with the perceived price of it, the feeling with the designer and the production company, maybe the luck\u2026but I think that without a real faith and love in what we are doing, we waste at least 80% of the probability to have a good product.<\/p>\n Instead of being the work of a single person, a product design is the result of a working team, and the designer\u2019s motivation has to be the engine able to drive all partners towards the objective, and sometimes this is really difficult.<\/p>\n OH: Among all your designs, which is your favorite product?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: That is always a difficult question, usually creative people give an answer like: \u00abmy best project will be the next one\u00bb and actually this could be my answer, but there are for sure some projects that are really important for me, maybe because they are born in a particular moment of my career, for example the fork \u00abB-Side\u00bb that allowed me to participate for the first time in an important exhibition at Fuorisalone during the Milano Design Week in 2005, or the armchair \u00abPlus\u00bb my first plastic chair designed for a big company like Pedrali, or the \u00abBasket Chair\u00bb for Gaber, that won the Good Design Award on 2014, or even the brand new table for Bonaldo \u00abMedley\u00bb that I hope it means for me a new step forward to the high end home furniture.<\/p>\n OH: Which is your source of inspiration? Where do you find those sources?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Everything is inspiration, every object or situation hides something to discover every day, the difficult part is to be able to capture the right messages from people, from a book, from internet, from a particular moment and mix all of this with your own sensibility and intuition capacity.<\/p>\n OH: How is a normal business day for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: I usually wake up at 8:30 and I take my typical Italian breakfast (cappuccino and cornetto) in a piazza in front of my house, in the center of Padua, so I’m ready to go to my studio, often with one of my homemade bicycles.<\/p>\n Once in my studio it is about work, a little lunch break and then ready again to draw, download and answer emails, organize the new projects and establish contacts with the future companies.<\/p>\n But in I think that the best part of a working day is going to the companies to develop the new prototypes. Every company makes the same things in a different way of work so, there is always something new to learn.<\/p>\n OH: In your opinion, which is going to be the star or best-seller piece of furniture this season?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Really, I don\u2019t know. This year I\u2019ve seen many good products during the last Milano Design Week, but it depends a lot in the company’s sales investment.<\/p>\n For example, there are many wonderful products that some companies are not be able to sell, for thousand reasons, so it is very difficult to say now which will be a best seller product…some icon products have started to sell well several years after their launch.<\/p>\n Maybe my new Medley table can be one of this? We will see.<\/p>\n OH: How do you see the future of furniture design?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: I believe in the object’s magnetic attraction. It\u2019s a kind of alchemy, like an actor that makes you cry or laugh, something that captures you. I think that this is a quality aspect to maintain, necessary to get a fascinating product design.<\/p>\n Forget about price, style, usefulness or if you need it or not…when you see something that captures your soul, the only thing that you want is to have it.<\/p>\n OH: You have worked for important companies like Alfa Romeo or Roncato. With which other company would you like to work for?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Just to be precise, for Alfa Romeo and Roncato I did only a workshop but has been enough to understand that the big companies can change your life.<\/p>\n I’ll try to move my focus on some big historical brand of home design like Zanotta, Magis, Cassina, Poliform and others. I\u2019m very curious by the methodology of work of those prestigious top quality brands that represents the \u00abmade in Italy\u00bb brand in the world.<\/p>\n OH: You have recently won the Good Design Award 2014 for Basket Chair. What has it meant for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: Yes, it is my first international prize and I’m very proud to win it. Obviously my life is not changed, but it is nice to have a confirmation that your work and your style is appreciated, it\u2019s a good motivator.<\/p>\n OH: Could you tell us a little bit about your work in progress? Which are going to be your next products?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: At the moment I’m very focused on all kinds of furniture that really characterizes the different home spaces like tables, sofas, beds but I hope that I will have something new even for my favorite type of furniture…the chairs.<\/p>\n I can’t hide my experimental side either, I would like to present something new and unexpected on next Milano Design Week so, stay tuned!<\/p>\n OH: We sell the outdoor chair Plus for Pedrali. Could you tell us more about its design process or your source of inspiration? Which are the differences between indoor and outdoor design?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: The Plus chair was my first important commercial product for a big design company like Pedrali, I’m very fond of this project because a chair is the most difficult object to design and I did it after only two years from the opening of my studio so, it was a good result for me. The project was born as a hybrid chair, half in plastic and half in wood.<\/p>\n The company liked the shape and proposed to make it using only 100% recyclable plastic. So a very versatile outdoor chair was born, super stackable (the company can sells boxes with 24 pieces, even that is sustainability), a stylish mix between a prestigious indoor dining chair and the popular white outdoor chair.<\/p>\n The product has had, and still has a great success after five years from first launch.<\/p>\n OH: You design mostly furniture and home accessories. In which other sector would you like to work (i.e.: jewels, white goods\u2026)?<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: I\u2019m attracted by sports goods, bicycles for example. Also sooner or later I would like to design something that can make the life easier for people that have problems to do daily actions. Making life easier and nice to others can be a very gratifying project.<\/p>\n OH: If you weren\u2019t designer, you would be\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n AB: A musician! I was a not bad drummer in the past.
