Al principio quer\u00eda ser arquitecto pero o\u00ed a un profesor hablar sobre el dise\u00f1o industrial y tras una breve investigaci\u00f3n cambi\u00e9 de idea y supe que esto era para m\u00ed.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> \u00bfQu\u00e9 necesita un dise\u00f1o para ser un \u00e9xito?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. \u2013 <\/strong>Creo que para hacer un dise\u00f1o exitoso necesita una combinaci\u00f3n de cosas: 1) Tiempo y el pensamiento puesto en la idea, la investigaci\u00f3n y probar es una necesidad. 2) La ejecuci\u00f3n es crucial, una idea mal ejecutada es malo\u2026 el producto perfecto est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ado para ser minimalista e intuir qu\u00e9 hace y entenderlo f\u00e1cilmente y hecho con honestidad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> De todos sus dise\u00f1os. \u00bfCu\u00e1l es su favorito?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0 He hecho muchos desde que empec\u00e9 con Umbra, pero de todos ellos mi favorito es un reloj suspendido que llame el Suspend Clock. Quer\u00eda crear un reloj de campana con un look cl\u00e1sico con una pieza de tiempo suspendida en el aire en su interior. Hemos sido capaces de darle una ilusi\u00f3n \u00f3ptica muy efectiva de que la pieza flota.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> \u00bfEn qu\u00e9 se inspira? \u00bfD\u00f3nde encuentran la inspiraci\u00f3n?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. \u2013<\/strong> La encuentro en todas partes. Siempre estoy pensando dise\u00f1os.\u00a0 Cuando paseo, hojeando una revista o navegando por los blogs, veo algo que despierta una idea y tomo una foto para m\u00e1s tarde. Siempre encuentro la mejor inspiraci\u00f3n cuando no la busco y cuando la veo me emociono y me mi mente se vuelve loca.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00bfC\u00f3mo es un d\u00eda normal de trabajo para usted? \u00bfPodr\u00eda contarnos m\u00e1s sobre su proceso creativo?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0 Yo dir\u00eda que no hay un d\u00eda normal de trabajo para m\u00ed, cada d\u00eda es diferente y \u00fanico\u2026lleno de problemas y obst\u00e1culos que superar. Suelo entrar a trabajar, tomo un caf\u00e9 y despu\u00e9s decido cual es la mayor prioridad, y toqueteo aqu\u00ed y all\u00e1 de cinco a diez productos al d\u00eda en diferentes etapas\u2026 desde el boceto al modelado en CAD para hacer prototipos en la tienda. Pero me encanta cada minuto porque me mantiene ocupado y no me gusta aburrirme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH \u2013<\/strong> En su opini\u00f3n \u00bfcu\u00e1l va a ser la pieza estrella de esta temporada?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. \u2013<\/strong> He visto un mont\u00f3n de muebles geniales en el mercado y Umbra no ha prestado mucha atenci\u00f3n a esta categor\u00eda en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. Pero este a\u00f1o hemos hecho del mobiliario una prioridad y hay algunas piezas geniales de camino. Tenemos una pieza nueva llamada Leanera que es una gran pieza multifuncional que puede estar en la entrada, el dormitorio o el ba\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211; <\/strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo ve el futuro del dise\u00f1o de muebles?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. \u2013 <\/strong>Los muebles ser\u00e1n m\u00e1s multifuncionales, la gente tiene muchas necesidades diferentes sobre mobiliario y el \u201cmueble tradicional\u201d va a desaparecer. \u00a0Cuanto m\u00e1s pueda hacer un \u00fanico mueble por ti, mejor. Seg\u00fan sea necesario habr\u00e1 que animar a la gente a que reutilice los muebles en vez de tirarlos a la basura y comprar nuevos porque sus necesidades han cambiado<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH \u2013<\/strong> Actualmente trabaja para Umbra como dise\u00f1ador. \u00bfCon qu\u00e9 otra compa\u00f1\u00eda le gustar\u00eda trabajar?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0 Me encanta trabajar para Umbra porque me da la capacidad de dise\u00f1ar para muchas \u00e1reas dentro de la casa. Me encantar\u00eda tener la oportunidad de\u00a0 dise\u00f1ar algunas piezas m\u00e1s permanentes a mayor escala\u2026 es divertido hacer cosas peque\u00f1as pero me encantar\u00eda la experiencia de dise\u00f1ar un edificio o un espacio al aire libre, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> \u00bfPodr\u00eda explicarnos por qu\u00e9 separa sus dise\u00f1os entre sofisticados o diversi\u00f3n?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. \u2013<\/strong> Supongo que eso soy yo. Tengo un lado serio pero tambi\u00e9n tengo sentido del humor y me divierto trabajando. Me gusta crear simples y limpias piezas modernas y atemporales, pero tambi\u00e9n creaciones divertidas dise\u00f1adas de coraz\u00f3n que hablan de las emociones de la gente y pueden hacerles sonre\u00edr. Estoy intentando crear m\u00e1s piezas que yo quiero en mi propia casa, cosas que no puedo encontrar o que quiero a\u00f1adir a mi marca. Quiero crear m\u00e1s piezas atemporales que duren y no pasen de moda.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH \u2013<\/strong> Inicialmente usted quer\u00eda ser arquitecto. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 cambi\u00f3 de idea?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. \u2013<\/strong> Sigo queriendo dise\u00f1ar mi propia casa o casa de campo alg\u00fan d\u00eda, pero me gust\u00f3 la idea de trabajar en cosas peque\u00f1as que la gente pueda interactuar con el d\u00eda a d\u00eda y pueda conectar emocionalmente. Y amo ser capaz de manipular el mundo a mi alrededor a trav\u00e9s de los objetos que llenan el hogar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH \u2013<\/strong> Usted dise\u00f1a sobre todo tipo de muebles y accesorios para la casa. \u00bfLe gustar\u00eda trabajar en otros sectores del dise\u00f1o (ej: joyer\u00eda, electrodom\u00e9sticos\u2026)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. \u2013<\/strong> Me encantar\u00eda abrir mi mente a otras cosas y divertirme aceptando retos usando mi experiencia y aprendiendo todo lo que pueda. Me encanta aprender cosas nuevas y mejor haci\u00e9ndolo que leyendo sobre ello.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0 SI no hubiera sido dise\u00f1ador, habr\u00eda sido\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. \u2013 <\/strong>Probablemente hubiera sido chef\u2026Me encanta cocinar y experimentar en la cocina con los sabores, colores y estilos. No me gusta seguir recetas prefiero aprender a medida que avanzo y probar cosas nuevas constantemente. Soy un chico creativo de coraz\u00f3n y sentimiento, si no fuera dise\u00f1ador seguir\u00eda necesitando expresarme y me encanta comer, as\u00ed que tiene sentido que fuera chef.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH \u2013<\/strong> Para conocerle mejor:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Un color:<\/strong> Me encanta el rojo y creo que tiene una energ\u00eda incre\u00edble y distintos estados de \u00e1nimo dependiendo el tono que elijas<\/li>\n<li><strong>Un material:<\/strong> Realmente materiales naturales en su estado en bruto. Madera sin acabado, piedra estera prima, fundidos met\u00e1licos con p\u00e1tina natural, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Un dise\u00f1ador que admire:<\/strong> Dieter Rams, no solo me encanta la imagen de sus productos tambi\u00e9n todo su proceso de acercamiento y el proceso mental detr\u00e1s de sus dise\u00f1os.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Un mueble que le inspire:<\/strong> La m\u00e1s inspiradora para mi es la silla de Adirondack cl\u00e1sica. No por ser una pieza de dise\u00f1o sino por su simplicidad y lo que representa. No intenta ser nada m\u00e1s que funcional y c\u00f3moda. Mi sitio favorito es estando sentado en una casa de campo mirando al lago, siempre que veo una me viene esa imagen a la mente. Quiero crear una pieza de mobiliario en mi vida que pueda hacer lo mismo a los dem\u00e1s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>El sitio favorito de su casa:<\/strong> Probablemente el sal\u00f3n, es mi sitio preferido para relajarme y no hacer nada o rodar por el suelo con mis hijos\u2026es c\u00f3modo y acogedor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Un lugar para vivir:<\/strong> Me encanta Canad\u00e1 y no estoy seguro de que me gustara vivir en otro sitio, siempre me siento como en casa despu\u00e9s de viajar y es uno de los mejores pa\u00edses donde vivir. Pero me encanta viajar cuando puedo y experimentar otras culturas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alan Wisniewski, in love with Canada, changed his mind of becoming an architect for trying out the design world. Today he is a recognized designer who has hired by Umbra and he divides his creations between sophisticated and fun. We were able to achieve this quite effectively giving the illusion the piece is floating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> Which is your source of inspiration? Where do you find those sources?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I find my inspiration everywhere, I\u2019m always thinking design.\u00a0 Weather I\u2019m out walking around, flipping through a magazine or surfing blogs and I see something that sparks an idea I\u2019ll snap a photo for later.\u00a0 I always find the best inspiration when I\u2019m not looking for it, and when I see it I get excited and my mind goes nuts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> How is a normal business day for you? Could you tell us more about your design process?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I would say there is no normal business day for me, every single day is different and unique\u2026filled with problems and obstacles to overcome.\u00a0 I usually come into work, have a coffee and then decide what\u2019s the biggest priority and touch anywhere from 5-10 different products a day at various stages\u2026from sketching to CAD modelling to making prototypes in the shop, but I love every minute because it keeps me busy and I hate being bored.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> In your opinion, which is going to be the star or best-seller piece of furniture this season?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I have seen a lot of great furniture on the market, and Umbra has not put a lot of attention in this category over the past few years, but this year we have made furniture a priority and have some great pieces on the way.\u00a0 We have a new piece called Leanera that\u2019s a great multi-functional piece that can live in the entryway, bedroom, bathroom alike.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> How do you see the future of furniture design?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I see furniture becoming more multi-functional, people have some many different needs for furniture and \u2018traditional furniture\u2019 is going extinct.\u00a0 The more a furniture piece can do many different things the better as it can move around the home as needed encouraging people to reuse it again and again instead of throwing it away and buying a new piece because their needs have changed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> Nowadays you work with Umbra as designer. What other company would you like to work for?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I love working for Umbra because to gives me the ability to design into so many areas within the home.\u00a0 I would love a chance to design some more permanent larger scale pieces as well&#8230;its fun doing smaller stuff but I\u2019d love the experience of designing a building or outdoor space etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> Could you explain why did you separate your designs in sophisticated or fun?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I guess it\u2019s just me, I have a serious side but I also have a sense of humour and have fun with my work.\u00a0 I love to create clean simple modern pieces that I would call more timeless and modern but I also have fun creating more fun light hearted designs that speak to people\u2019s emotions and can put a smile on their faces.\u00a0 I like to keep them separate because I like to think I can design into both categories and have more than one side to me;)<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> Could you tell us a little bit about your work in progress? Why did you change your mind?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I would still love to design my own house or cottage someday, but I liked the idea of working on smaller items that people interact with\u00a0 on a day to day basis and can connect to emotionally and love being able to manipulate the world around me though objects that fill the home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> You design mostly furniture and home accessories. Would you like to work in other design sectors (ex: jewellery, white goods\u2026)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I would love to open my mind to other things and have fun taking on challenges by using my experiences to build new experiences and learn as much as I can.\u00a0 I love learning new things and do so best through doing them rather than reading about them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> If you weren\u2019t designer, you would be\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.W. &#8211;<\/strong> I would probably be a chef\u2026I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen with flavours, colours and style.\u00a0 I don\u2019t like following recipes but rather learn as I go and try new things constantly.\u00a0 I\u2019m a creative guy at heart and feel even if I wasn\u2019t a designer I would still need to express myself and I also love to eat so it makes sense I would be a chef.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OH &#8211;<\/strong> In depth:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>A colour<\/strong>: I love red and feel it has amazing energy and so many different moods depending on the shade you choose.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A material: <\/strong>Really into natural materials right now in their raw state. Wood with no finishing, raw mat stone, cast metals with natural patina etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A designer you admire: <\/strong>Of course most designers would say this but Dieter Rams. I love not only the look of his products but his whole approach and thought process behind design.<\/li>\n<li><strong>An inspiring piece of furniture: <\/strong>The most inpriring piece of furniture to me is the classic adirondack chair. Not as a \u2018designer piece\u2019 but I love the simplicy of it and what it represents. It\u2019s not trying to be anything but functional and comfortable.\u00a0 My favorite place to be is sitting in one at the cottage looking over the lake, everytime I see one it brings that image. \u00a0I want to cr\u00e9ate a piece of furniture in my lifetime that can do the same thing to others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your favourite place of your home: <\/strong>Probably my living room, it\u2019s my favourite place to chill out and do nothing in or roll around on the floor with my kids\u2026it\u2019s just comfortable and cozy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A place to live in: <\/strong>I love Canada and not sure I would live anywhere else, it always feels like home after travelling and feels it\u2019s one of the greatest countries to live in.
