Andreas Ostwald, reconocido dise\u00f1ador alem\u00e1n, crea su propio estudio en 1996, pero nunca deja de trabajar con otras empresas como es el caso de Infiniti que cuenta con \u00e9l como uno de sus principales creativos\/dise\u00f1adores.<\/strong><\/p>\n

En OcioHogar tenemos el placer de conocerle m\u00e1s a fondo gracias a esta breve entrevista que Andreas Ostwald nos concede.<\/strong><\/p>\n

OCIOHOGAR –<\/strong> \u00bfQu\u00e9 te hizo decidirte a ser dise\u00f1ador de mobiliario y complementos?<\/p>\n

ANDREAS OSTWALD –<\/strong> Me temo que no tuve elecci\u00f3n, mi padre quer\u00eda que fuese Ingeniero, pero yo amaba Formgebung y Gestaltung (las expresiones alemanas para el dise\u00f1o) y todav\u00eda es la profesi\u00f3n que m\u00e1s me gusta. Comenc\u00e9 como aprendiz de modelador de cer\u00e1mica, el reto era reproducir una imagen original realizada por un artesano pero en un tama\u00f1o 116% superior, y haci\u00e9ndolo a mano. Tuve que aprender el proceso artesanal, recreando las superficies curvadas con una precisi\u00f3n de pocos mil\u00edmetros.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> \u00bfQu\u00e9 necesita un dise\u00f1o para convertirse en un \u00e9xito?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Un mont\u00f3n de planificaci\u00f3n, dedicar tiempo a pensar en grandes ideas que luego se transforman en la vida real, entender, empatia y una cabeza anal\u00edtica.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> Entre todos tus dise\u00f1os, \u00bfcu\u00e1l es tu producto favorito?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Siempre es el \u00faltimo producto que has realizado. Ahora mismo estoy trabajo en una preciosa silla para salas de reuniones para Casala, tambi\u00e9n estoy planificando un nuevo producto para Anta llamado \u201e90\u201c (Novanta) y m\u00e1s adelante tengo ya en cartera una nueva silla para Infinity<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> En mi estudio, mirando por la ventana, es una forma de meditar.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> \u00bfC\u00f3mo es un d\u00eda normal de trabajo para ti? \u00bfPodr\u00edas contarnos cu\u00e1l es el proceso que sigues al dise\u00f1ar un producto?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> S\u00ed, por supuesto, encantado de hacerlo. Normalmente entro en mi estudio cuando mis hijas se van al colegio a las 8:30. Cierro el apartamento y voy andando a mis oficinas. Hablo con mis clientes por la ma\u00f1ana, y despu\u00e9s de la comida me voy al taller. Trabajo con mi impresora 3D y despu\u00e9s de cenar me siento enfrente de la pantalla trabajando en nuevas construcciones y modelos 3D. Me encantan estas horas ya por la noche para trabajar.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> En tu opini\u00f3n, \u00bfcu\u00e1l va a ser el producto estrella de la pr\u00f3xima temporada?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Hablando informalmente, lo que mejor se vende, siendo realista son los productos m\u00e1s feos. En cualquier caso, \u00bfCu\u00e1l va a ser el producto estrella esta temporada? \u00abChapeau\u00bb para la Colecci\u00f3n Belleville de Brother Bouruolecs para Vitra https:\/\/vimeo.com\/123725812<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> \u00bfC\u00f3mo ves el futuro del dise\u00f1o de mobiliario?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Hay que reconocer que durante los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os ha habido una tendencia rid\u00edcula hacia el vintage retro, con unos patrones y colores realmente feos. Espero y pienso que habr\u00e1 una tendencia por los art\u00edculos artesanos, tal vez es la oportunidad de que las personas no se asusten del futuro y se pueda optar por algo nuevo: Nuevas formas de vivir y de interactuar con los productos que nos rodean. Mi estudiante Mortiz Putzier descubri\u00f3 una nueva de cocinar en su proyecto fin de carrera, que me encanta http:\/\/www.moritzputzier.com\/work#the-cooking-table<\/span><\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

El mercado de la tapicer\u00eda por ejemplo podr\u00eda cambiar con algunas ideas nuevas, usando materiales ecol\u00f3gicos y nuevas formas, para por fin superar el estilo tradicional de los salones.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> En 1996 fundaste tu propia marca, Estudio Ostwalddesign. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 decidiste fundar tu marca en lugar de trabajar para otras empresas? \u00bfC\u00f3mo es la experiencia de fundar tu marca en lugar de trabajar para otras empresas?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Comenc\u00e9 un estudio de dise\u00f1o pero a\u00fan segu\u00ed trabajando para otras empresas. Lo m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil es entender el mercado y guiar a la empresa por el camino adecuado.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> Eres profesor de Universidad. \u00bfCu\u00e1l ser\u00eda el mejor consejo que puedes dar a tus estudiantes?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Trabajar muy duro, confiar en ti mismo y dedicarte a lo que te gusta hacer. OH –<\/strong> \u00bfPodr\u00edas contarnos algo sobre el producto en el que trabajas actualmente?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Justo ahora vamos a lanzar varios art\u00edculos para PHILIPPI, teniendo un nuevo sistema de librer\u00edas, actualizando la Colecci\u00f3n Tempus y esperando los primeros prototipos del Hamburger Hocker (un taburete ic\u00f3nico) ahora en aluminio para la versi\u00f3n exterior. Para ANTA determin\u00e9 la \u00faltima serie de luminarias LED llamada BIM BAM BOM que estar\u00e1 disponible en Diciembre de 2015.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> Uno de los aspectos m\u00e1s importantes de tus dise\u00f1os es que es respetuoso con el medio ambiente. \u00bfC\u00f3mo lo consigues?<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Muchas otras personas ya han definido y expresado el dise\u00f1o como un proceso mental, yo quiero llegar un poco m\u00e1s all\u00e1: Dise\u00f1o basado en el Razonamiento, pensar en porqu\u00e9 las cosas son como son, an\u00e1lisis y el pensamiento imaginativo sobre otras opciones de futuro. Soluciones que se basan en la mejora, la simplificaci\u00f3n, la innovaci\u00f3n, esa es la forma de obtener productos que tendr\u00e1n una larga vida. Los conceptos de epea.com<\/a> est\u00e1n m\u00e1s o menos enfocados en art\u00edculos de consumo, y por lo tanto son una buena oportunidad de \u00e9xito, conceptos sostenibles.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> Dise\u00f1as principalmente muebles y accesorios para el hogar. \u00bfTe gustar\u00eda trabajar en otros sectores? Por ejemplo, dise\u00f1o de joyas, art\u00edculos de lujo.<\/p>\n

A.O. –<\/strong> Bueno, eso no es del todo exacto. Estoy trabajando en una gama muy amplia del dise\u00f1o: arquitectura industrial, el sistema del tejado del Deutsche Bank es mi dise\u00f1o, tambi\u00e9n he dise\u00f1ado t\u00faneles de viento para Powerwind y Nordex y otros art\u00edculos en el sector m\u00e9dico. He trabajado para Sysmex y desarrollado un cepillo de dientes ergon\u00f3mico para la empresa suiza Curaden. Para OSRAM establec\u00ed un manual de producto y los procesos de dise\u00f1o en la empresa, as\u00ed como en Deutsche Telekom junto con Jan Delfs. Mi trabajo no tiene l\u00edmites, el pr\u00f3ximo reto muy interesante quiz\u00e1s ser\u00e1 la arquitectura con www.vector-foiltec.com<\/a>\u00a0.<\/p>\n

Andreas Ostwald, famous German designer, created his own studio in 1996. He never stops working and he is one of the main designers of companies such as Infiniti.<\/strong>
\nIn OcioHogar we were please to interview Andreas Ostwald and get to know more about him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

OCIOHOGAR –\u00a0<\/strong>What made you decide to become a furniture and product designer?<\/p>\n

ANDREAS OSTWALD<\/strong> – There has been no other choice. My Father wanted me to become an Engineer, but I loved Formgebung and Gestaltung (the German expression for Design ) and it is sGll the best Profession for me. I started an apprenGceship as a ceramic modeller, the challenge was to produce the original form made by plaster in a 116% size by hand. It was the learningl of exact handwork, mastering spherically curved surfaces in tenths of a millimeter range .<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> What needs a design to become a success?<\/p>\n

A lot of genius planning great ideas thatare transformed into real life a lot of thinking understanding I think empathy and brain.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong> Among all your designs, which is your favourite product?<\/p>\n

It is always the newborn the next project!Right now I am working on a wonderful execuGve \/ conference chair for CASALA. Planning a Startup for ANTA called \u201e90\u201c ( Novanta) and\u00a0having a new chair for OMP \/ InfiniG in the pipeline\u201e We will have a table that fits ths Next Chair.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong>\u00a0How is a normal business day for you?Could you tell us more about your design process?<\/p>\n

Yes it is a pleasure to me. So normally I enter my studio when all my daughters lef to school at 8.30 I closing the flat and having a walking distance to my offices .Then having the correspondence with my clients , after lunch I am going to my workshop, feed my 3d Printer with some parts and afer dinner I sit in front of the screen for some new construcGons and renderings. Cause I love these nightshif hours to work.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong>\u00a0In your opinion, which is going to be the star or best-seller piece of furniture this season?<\/p>\n

Friendly spoken the bestseller under a realisGc aspect are the ugly ones and I don\u00b4t now them, but the star this year ? \u00abChapeau\u00bb to the Brother Bouruolecs Belleville CollecGon for Vitra\u00a0https:\/\/vimeo.com\/123725812<\/a>\u00a0.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong>How do you see the future of furniture design?<\/p>\n

Afer recognizing that in the last years there has been a ridiculous trend for vintage retro with real ugly palerns and colors. I hope and think there could be a tendency for a new
\ncrafsmanship now, perhaps it is a chance if the people are no longer afraid of the future and there could be a try for something New: New terms of use, new terms of living , for example \u00a0my student Moritz Putzier realized a new way of cooking in his diploma which I really love\u00a0http:\/\/www.moritzputzier.com\/work#the-cooking-table<\/span><\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe complete market for upholstery for instance could change with some new ideas with really ecologic materials and new forms .. to overcome these old tradional sepngs of a living room.Cause today they are more non living rooms.<\/p>\n

OH –\u00a0<\/strong>In 1996 you founded your own branch, Ostwalddesign Studio. Why did you decide to found a branch instead of sGll working for other companies?How is the experience of start up a company?<\/p>\n

Which could be the most difficult issue to solve when you start a business? I started as a design studio\/agency but sGll working for other companies ? The most difficult thing is to understand markets and the way each company is Gcking.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong>\u00a0You are a teacher at university. Which could be the best advice that you could give to
\nyour students?<\/p>\n

Work hard at Yourself – trust yourself and find Your weakness for something special and do your favourite thing ! Then it is easy to develop the genius,\u00a0for example http:\/\/www.christophgeiger.com<\/a><\/span>\u00a0wanted to become a product designer but in our courses of integrated design he realized his passion for drawing and established the Kritzelklub\u00a0http:\/\/www.kritzel-klub.de<\/a>.<\/p>\n

OH –<\/strong>\u00a0Could you tell us a lille bit about your work in progress? Which are going to be your next products?<\/p>\n

Just now we will launch some new items for PHILIPPI – having a new shelf-system – update the Tempus CollecGon and waiGng for the first prototypes of the Hamburger Hocker ( the iconique stool of the harbour ) now in aluminium version for outdoor. For ANTA.de I finished the latest series of LED luminaires called BIM BAM BOM and will be available in Dec 2015.<\/p>\n

OH –\u00a0<\/strong>One of the most important aspects of your design is that it had to be respectul with the environment. How could you get it?<\/p>\n

Many other people have already definedand expressed the Design as a mental process. I want to run a lille more: Design\u00a0based for me to Thinking, thinking about why something is as it is the analysis\u00a0and an imaginagve thinking about opGonal future SoluGons within the meaning of\u00a0improvements, simplificaGons, innovaGons, thats the way to receive long-lasGng
\nproducts , even visual long-lasGng and thats the best way to save our blue planet.\u00a0The concepts of epea.com<\/a>\u00a0are more or less focussed on consumer consumpGon\u00a0and therefor a good opportunity to have success \u00a0all other design is best done by\u00a0longlasGng, long living , sustainable concepts.<\/p>\n

You design mostly furniture and home accessories. Would you like to work in other\u00a0design sectors (ex: jewellery, white goods\u2026)?<\/p>\n

Sorry thats inexactly. I am working in a wide field of design: industrial\u00a0architecture so the roof system of the Deutsche Bahn is my design- there are\u00a0several wind turbines for Powerwind and Nordex and on the medical sector.\u00a0I worked for Sysmex and developed a new ergonomic toothbrush for the\u00a0swiss company Curaden . for OSRAM Ii established a product manual and I\u00a0built up the design unit at the Deutsche Telekom together with JAN DELFS with\u00a0the result of a very nice product range of routers and handhelds – let me say\u00a0my work has no limit ,,, the next interesGng topics will be the unknown \u2014perhaps architecture with www.vector-foiltec.com<\/a>\u00a0.<\/p>\n
